This poor little creature was out to steal our hearts the moment we landed. We were to learn that once a pup is born Mommy takes off to look for food which can take several days. In the main time Poppa looks after the pup. Poppa was off swimming and this poor little one week old pup was alone on the beach. He was so sad crying for his mommy, that anything that moved looked like a possiblity for a mother figure. This little pup tried us and when we were not a good substitute he went after a young pelican who also rejected him. Not to be defeated he tried another nursing mother on the beach but that mother just shooed him away with a swat. Thus our lonely little fellow waddled down the beach crying and crying. Such a sad sight but a beautiful picture.
